He later became Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of the Residency training program (1976 – 1980). During this time frame, he was also a Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General (1976-80). He retired following a distinguished 25-year military career. Dr. Johnson is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (1967) and also a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In addition to his national professional organizations, he is a life member of the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and The Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Johnson is a well-known lecturer both locally and nationally. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal publications and text book chapters and is well versed in all areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Although his practice includes all oral and maxillofacial surgery including facial reconstruction, a major part of Dr. Johnson’s practice stems from his extensive research and pioneer efforts in the evaluation and management of oral pathology. He began his private practice in 1980 in the San Antonio area and has subsequently partnered with other surgeons of like-minded commitment to patient care and safety. In 2012, Dr. Johnson retired from full-time practice but remains our founding partner, mentor and the closest of friend to all of us.
