Meet Dr. Edgin

Dr. Wendell Edgin is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon providing full scope surgical services in San Antonio and Boerne. Dr. Edgin grew up in the Texas Panhandle and received Baccalaureate degrees in Zoology and Microbiology from Texas Tech University. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (1980) before entering the United States Air Force and completing a General Practice Residency at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ. He then served as a general dentist for six years before entering residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center which he completed in 1990. Dr. Edgin completed a 21-year military career in 2001 at the rank of Colonel. His military career culminated as the department Chairman and Director of the Graduate Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. In addition, he served as the Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to the Surgeon General. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal with one device. Col Edgin feels truly privileged to have been able to serve our country with the men and women of the greatest Air Force the world has ever known!

Following his military career, Dr. Edgin taught oral and maxillofacial surgery for 5 years at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. He attained the academic rank of Associate Professor and maintained a faculty practice in full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. He joined Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in 2006.

Dr. Edgin is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has written and lectured extensively on a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgery topics nationally and internationally. Dr. Edgin is also a Life Fellow of The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists and served on the Examination Committee for The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for eight years. Dr. Edgin currently serves as the Past President of the San Antonio District Dental Society with almost 1000 members and is an Alternate Delegate for the Texas Dental Association. He is Past President of the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Past President of the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Edgin and his wife, Kathy have been married over forty years and have two adult children and four grandchildren. He derives great pleasure and pride from spending time with his family. While away from the office he enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and tinkering in his backyard shop.
